Salvete omnes! Virginia has had a busy few months after the 2023 VJCL convention! Officers have met several times, officially and unofficially, brainstorming and initiating projects to further VJCL. There has been a considerable emphasis this year on making sure VJCL can increase outreach and participation among the state. As the Winter board meeting commenced, this was seen clearly in the proposals discussed and debated. Moreover, in matters of spirit, VJCL has started a card drive for St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital. Virginia has also convened with the Maryland JCL to discuss a joint event in the DMV area. We can’t wait for what the new year will bring!

With our competition season just around the corner, the TSJCL is busily preparing for our five long-awaited Area Conventions. TSJCLers across the state are pulling out old study materials, crafting beautiful pieces of art, practicing for intense Ludi contests, and so much more! Only two months after these exciting competitions, we will come together for our yearly State Convention in April.
In January, the TSJCL Board convened for the annual Winter Board Meeting over Zoom to discuss arrangements for State. The trophy report, anticipated budget, service project, colloquia, registration packet, and contest judging sheets were among several important topics covered at this meeting. The TSJCL community cannot wait to reunite for a new season of competition, friendship, and fun!

The TJCL has had an eventful winter from 2023-2024. The annual West Tennessee Fall Festivus gathered together a number of JCLers from Memphis and the surrounding area for a day of contests and fun, and later the TJCL Executive Board had a highly productive Fall Planning Meeting to prepare for our State Convention in April and all of its events (including the return of the chariot race)!
As Torch Editor for TN, I’ve gotten to witness some of the amazing things our JCLers have done in past months: a celebration of Virgil’s birthday, the Veterani Dinner (an event for advanced members of Latin Club chapters ate food inspired by Ancient Roman Cuisine), and the building of a chariot! I can’t wait to see what’s next.
