Howdy, Amici!

National convention is finally just around the corner! I’m so excited to actually meet everyone after these two long years. But you know what comes with an in-person national convention? In-person spirit! Long gone (hopefully) are the days of having to use Google forms and digital cheers. With that being said, NJCL’s spirit has had a makeover and will feature new challenges, unlike in any other years past. Read all about it in the 2022 NJCL Spirit and Service Guide to learn more about DIY and propless spirit, the national service project, and roll call. I can’t want to see everybody’s creative takes on this year’s themes.

Everyone’s submissions for COTM and National Classics Week were so much fun to see. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to interact with fellow JCLers during our week of officer takeovers, and I look forward to having more of those conversations over the summer! Every month’s COTM winners have been posted on the NJCL Instagram page, so go check out all of the wonderful entries if you haven’t already. See y’all in July!

Amici,

I should have known that the brief breezy respite of Floridian winter was just a ruse. I’ve been consistently dealing with 90 degrees on a daily basis since winter’s end and I’m not too happy about it. Despite the particularly face-melting heat, I have had much to fondly remember since the last issue of the Torch: U.S. came out. The last few months of submissions for the website contest came and went. The judges and I are currently working on scoring the final sites, and they’re all beautiful. Kudos to any and all who submitted. I also have had a few minute-taking opportunities in the past couple months, but other than that, the board and I have been by and large occupied with our respective senior seasons. To fellow graduates — congratulations! — and consider continuing your classical studies at the next level.

See you all very soon in Lafayette.
