Carissimī Amīcī,

Not too long ago, I was cruelly reminded by Alex (your 1VP) that the officers have just five months left in office –– tempus fugit, indeed! Recently, I’ve been throwing myself into all-things DEI. I’ve reviewed applications for the new student committee (the results of which should be out by the time you’re reading this!), and I’m thoroughly excited by the passion of JCLers and SCLers alike. Additionally, I’ve worked with Ms. Luongo on a Certamen fundraiser to raise money for packet awards to convention. In a more creative vein, I’ve brainstormed some snazzy new merch ideas for official NJCL merch. I brought all these ideas and more to the Spring Planning Meeting which I led…drumroll please…IN PERSON! Your officers and I are so excited to welcome you to Lafayette, Louisiana this summer. Keep an eye out for registration information coming soon! As always, if you have any questions or thoughts, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]. I’d love to hear from you!

SAVVY THOMPSON

2021-2022 NJCL President

Salvete omnes! For the past few months, I have successfully carried out multiple National Classics Week initiatives. The 2022 theme is “Ancient Influences in the Modern World,” and you can find this year’s booklet at bit.ly/2022ncw. Each day’s pages contain suggested activities for celebration and an entry written by one of our officers reflecting on the contributions of multiple ancient cultures toward a modern field of thought. Additionally, you can find my National Proclamation Acquisition Packet at bit.ly/classicsweekproclamation. To celebrate the release of these materials to the JCL community, I spearheaded NJCL’s Classicalia event, which took place on January 22nd, 2022. The event included social activities, service workshops, general assemblies, and guest speaker presentations from Emmy-awarded ABC journalist Lynn Sherr, Howard University lecturer and author Dr. Anika Prather, and UK Parliamentarian Baroness Susan Greenfield (as well as a special video message from Boston Mayor Michelle Wu). Onward!
