STATE UPDATES
Salvete from Virginia! We have been hard at work these past few months, and we are extremely excited to share our past activities with you all as we eagerly anticipate rolling into summer. During March and April, we held two successful VJCL movie nights, which we hope to continue as a tradition throughout the year. In late March, we had our Spring Board Meeting, where we finalized our Certamen Committee, and started planning for National Classics Week and national convention. We held two service projects this spring, one throughout March and April, and one during Classics Week. Our Classics Week activities and events were based on aspects of daily Roman life, from education to food to occupation. We introduced a different facet for each day of the week, and with it, a different corresponding activity that would allow people to delve further into the topic in a fun way. All these activities are available on our Instagram page @officialvjcl. At the end of the week, we had a bonus event: our very first VJCL Classics Day! This event was free to everyone who wanted to attend and featured a presentation from Dr. O’Hara of UNC about the Aeneid and a workshop from Tim Smith of the Youtube channel Coquamus. We were extremely excited to see this event come to fruition and are extremely grateful to all who came! We hope to have many more VJCL activities in the future and anticipate seeing you all at NJCL Convention!

Salvete omnes! TSJCL is proud to have hosted 1,043 students virtually in our state convention! We had many exciting events, including a keynote from author Madeline Miller and a talent show streamed over YouTube. The TSJCL, with the help of 2nd VP Monique Hoarau, held an impromptu art contest and had an officer's choice award for the first time; additionally, with the help of the TXSCL, we hosted a chess contest, scavenger hunt, game night, and rounds of street Certamen to help students better get to know each other. We have an online gallery of some of the winning art, so make sure to look under the media section of the TSJCL website! We also elected our new 2021-2022 board: Bering Edwards (President), Kathy He (1st VP), Heidi Tamm (2nd VP), Cayla VanSickle (Outreach Coordinator), and Marco Cheung (Secretary). We have also selected our appointed officers, and we look forward to the future of the TSJCL!
