The election process comprised an integral part of the 66th National Junior Classical League convention as sixteen pre-filed candidates vied for JCLers’ votes. Although it is unknown whether campaign tags found their way to the bottom of delegates’ suitcases during frantic morning packing or were neatly placed in backpacks for reminiscence, it is certain the election season occurred in a whirlwind of excitement and information.
This year’s Nominations Committee, keeping delegates on their toes as always, proceeded in gavel order to accommodate the state-of-emergency election for the position of editor. Voting delegates from each state nominated two candidates for each office to proceed through Nominations Committee. Emma Burbach of Nebraska, Madeline Chang of Illinois, Jesse Hogan of Massachusetts, and Jocelyn Robertson of
Virginia pre-filed for the office of president:. After two rounds of voting, Jesse Hogan and Jocelyn Robertson received nominations.
For the office of 1st vice president, both prefiled candidates, Nosa Lawani of New Hampshire and Andrew Saverance of South Carolina, continued through Nominations Committee. Three candidates pre-filed for the office of 2nd vice president: Athena Davis of California, Paige Graf of Kentucky, and Will Snyder of Texas. Of those, Athena Davis and Paige Graf were nominated. Both pre-filed candidates, Brigitte Webb of Oklahoma and Faith Woods of Louisiana, were voted through for the office of parliamentarian. Andrew Cahall of Ohio and Emma Raven of Maine received the nominations for the office of communications coordinator. Of the three pre-filed candidates for historian, Elizabeth Foster of Wisconsin, Maya Harris of Florida, and Jason Juang of Georgia, both Maya Harris and Jason Juang were voted to proceed.
