JOE GORE CULT GERMANIUM OVERDRIVE Joe Gore is everybody’s favorite guitar writer and blogger, as well as a highly accomplished musician that has played with Tom Waits, PJ Harvey, and many other singular artists. He’s also a pedal designer now, and his company’s initial offerings have proven to be both impressive and intriguing, referencing familiar designs while also venturing boldly out into unexplored tonal territory. The Cult Germanium Overdrive (yes, another one knob dirt box!) caught my fancy for its elegant simplicity, gutsy tones, and extreme dynamic response. Seriously, the Cult’s dynamic range is freakin’ ridiculous! It does sparkling, mostly clean sounds as well as a vicious, full throated bark, and everything in between. If you have a close relationship with your guitar’s volume knob and a hankering for something new and different, Joe Gore’s Cult Germanium Overdrive will prove to be a very inspiring musical companion.
