CHANDLER LIMITED GERMANIUM DRIVE Chandler Limited is most widely known for its studio gear. Production people love the company’s germanium preamps and equalizers for their lively, vintage colored sounds, which are a nice contrast from much of the “transparent” pro audio gear that is more common today. Chandler also makes a handful of guitar-specific products now, including the Germanium Drive, which packs a lot of what people love about its Ge studio preamps and DIs into stompbox form. This pedal is much more a proper guitar 16 TONE TALK // preamp than a simple overdrive pedal, and as such it can take some tweaking to get it dialed in, but once one gets the hang of the controls the breadth of tones that can be gotten from it is striking. The Germanium Drive is absolutely bursting with high end harmonics, and it can really make any rig come alive with threedimensional complexity. This pedal ain’t cheap, but if you can come up with the cheese, it’s worth every penny. Germanium Giants: 6 Superb Sound Sculptors
