Service is at the heart of
Gwynedd Mercy University . This past year , students and faculty traveled the globe to learn more about our mission and to help underserved communities . development . Students also hosted a baby shower , giving gifts collected through the service project of GMercyU ' s Sigma Phi Sigma chapter .
learned about healthcare in the country , including through a clinical experience at St . John ’ s Hospital and the University Hospital of Limerick . Students also toured popular local gems , from the Cliffs of Moher to St . Mary ’ s Cathedral .
NURSING AND SOCIAL WORK JAMAICA TRIP Nursing and Social Work students traveled to Jamaica over spring break to serve the local Mustard Seed Communities , an international nonprofit organization that provides care to vulnerable populations . The trip was part of their Interprofessional Global Outreach course , where future healthcare providers and social workers learn to work together as a team to improve patient and population healthcare .
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY KENYA TRIP GMercyU ’ s Occupational Therapy program organized a 12-day medical mission trip with students and an alumna to Kenya this summer in conjunction with Chariots for Hope , Cornerstone Church of Skippack , and additional healthcare providers from the community . The team trained staff members across eight children ’ s homes to provide hearing , vision , and developmental screenings . They also left vision kits and audiometers for the staff to continue screenings . The group continues to meet monthly with the professionals in Kenya to review how the screening process is going .
DUBLIN PILGRIMAGE Seven GMercyU students traveled to Dublin , Ireland with two staff leaders to attend a three-day conference organized by Mercy International Centre that hosts college students from all over the world . The conference featured keynote presentations , as well as breakout groups exploring a variety of Mercy themes . Prior to the conference , the GMercyU group traveled through Northern Ireland , learning about “ The Troubles ” and the ensuing Peace Process , and visited popular tourist sites .
PUBLIC HEALTH AND PSYCHOLOGY JAMAICA TRIP In July 2024 , students and faculty in our Public Health and Psychology programs also traveled to Jamaica to work with the Mustard Seed Communities . Students led health education sessions with adolescent new mothers and teens living with HIV , and addressed topics such as healthy relationships , prenatal and postnatal health , and child
STUDY ABROAD IN IRELAND Bachelor of Science in Nursing students completed a three-week program at the University of Limerick in Ireland over the summer . GMercyU is one of the only universities in the area to offer undergraduate nursing students the opportunity to study abroad and earn credits . Students
