it,” Lord said. “We graduated our three-year starter at
goalie so there’s definitely some big shoes to fill.”
Junior Calista Hanna backs a team that Lord
described as really quick on the front line, and if her
girls can mete out the emotions and concentrate a bit
harder on the task at hand, success will follow.
“You have to have a talented athlete at every position
as well,” Lord said. “It used to be that you could fill
out your roster with some weaker players and still be
competitive, but not so much anymore. Goalies work
with specialists that enhance abilities and teach new
things and you have to be ready with depth throughout
the team.”
In past years it wasn’t uncommon to see one team
blow out another, but those days seem long ago with
one-goal, low-scoring games becoming commonplace.
Lauryn Bedard, a returning starter for the Crim-
son Tide, believes this year’s team can get over
the hump, and used her time over the summer to
maximum efficiency in order to improve her skills
and conditioning.
“We were 12-3 last year and we lost a few good play-
ers but I think we look pretty strong. We finished pre-
season scrimmages in order to get in shape and condi-
tion with a lot of running and stick skills. We do team
runs during the summer four days a week and I know
a lot of the captains showed up for most of them.”
Bedard also commented on having a new backstop
for the team and how it’s not always easy to find some-
one with the skills and mindset.
“We had to find a new goalie for this year,” Bedard
said. “Luckily Calista (Hanna) is up to the task and
hopefully with a little experience her confidence in the
position will contribute in the win column.”
