Golf: Season tees up to be a good one

Vermont’s golf courses have been a little rain-
soaked but most coaches and players agree it still
beats the spring season.
Early feedback has been positive during golf’s
debut as a fall sport for high school. So far, the
only thing sub-par about the change has been
some of the scores.
Breaking 40 has been a common occurrence
for many players in the opening two weeks, with
several Central Vermont teams proving they’re
capable of winning a championship.
“We’ve only had two matches but it’s after the
kids have played all summer,” Northfield-William-
stown coach McNair said. “The ball’s rolling, the
ball’s compressing. Even in the rain, it’s been fairly
pleasant. The course is in great shape and the
scores are much lower than before.”
