What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?
It’s definitely more spontaneous. It’s a good time to catch up and just have a beer as well. Just fucking chill out. Half of the time, if we haven’t got anything new, we’ll just jam and talk about music instead with instruments around us. But yea it’s definitely more spontaneous. But obviously, if we’ve got something coming up like recording or like a big gig then we will rehearse, we will be professional about it, kind of. But yea, it’s definitely more spontaneous – just do it when it feels right.
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?
Well basically, Matt learnt to sing and I learnt to play drums cause all we had was a guitar. It’s just gone from strength to strength really. Learning when to go quiet instead of noise all the way through. Learning to bring it down. Learning to be a little bit softer – do you know what I mean? Like I know I said play loud but you can play quiet and sound loud, you know? So, yea it’s just learning each other’s rhythms and listening to different music man. It’s just like, not just old blues stuff and punk stuff. Branch out to like Country and Folk. Even a bit of Hip-hop. Some Hip-hop beats and stuff like that… just simulate it all and put it into one thing and just see what happens.
What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
Well, we used to live with each other – so trying not to kill each other, that was the first challenge and I think we’ve overcome that because we’re still standing. Although, Matt isn’t here in this interview, he is still alive I can assure you. First challenge was to not kill each other but I don’t know… just getting out of being stagnant. When you get stagnant, that’s when everything dies so just keep on moving, find something fresh and just keep on moving forward. And like I said, it’s pretty free flowing with me and Matt and any challenge that does come our way, we hit it head on.
