Thoughts
The Lord may speak to our minds in a thought which suddenly pops into our head . This is best seen with Philip in Acts 8 , who by the power of the Ruach , had the idea to go and stay close to a particular chariot . When he heeded the leading of the Spirit , he found an Ethiopian reading from the TANAKH ( Old Covenant Scriptures ), which in turn led the Ethiopian to Yeshua as his Messiah . Thus , we must never forget that the Lord places thoughts into our minds for the purpose of guiding us . This can come as a single word , a phrase , or a stance which will speak into our present situation .
Visions and Dreams
The Lord may give us a glimpse of reality as He sees it through a vision , just as he did with Peter in Acts 10 , or the Ruach haKodesh may provide us with a dream as he did with Joseph and Daniel .
An Audible Voice
As a boy , Samuel heard the Lord speaking directly to him , but at that time he did not recognize the Lord ’ s voice . In response of simple , yet in obedient faith and action , Samuel first replies “ Hineni ” – “ Here I am ” ( 1 Samuel 3:8 ), and “ Speak [ to me Lord ] for your servant is listening .” ( 1 Samuel 3:10b )
