PONDEROSA CROSS-COUNTRY CAMP
As a veteran Ponderosa rider, I have had the pleasure of enjoying many magical Ponderosa camps.
It is much more than just an ordinary camp; it’s a retreat with our horses from the world. I have
asked Betty Wates to write a short summary of this year’s fun-filled Ponderosa Camp.
“Ponderosa Camp was held between April 12th-15th. We had riders were divided into 3 groups,
which went well as the more experienced riders helped our first timers, Isabel Chen and Ella
McConnell, both 8 years old. Sarah Misir did very well with her young horse, except in his joy of
life made her buy ground. Charlotte Clivio was brilliant on her special Goofy. Claire Schwapp
was great on Trelawny, as was Sophia Asher on Ali Baba, Hannah Deleon on Jack, Annie Stewart on Tsunami. The Champion crosscountry rider was Danielle Gore on Cali, who cantered the whole course, like one should. There were a lot of clear rounds, but some
trotting down hill as nerves took place! Robyn Hugh Sam rode Domino and Hannah Ball
rode Gemini. Madeleine Aquart from Cayman also came and did well on Hannah; this
makes her third Ponderosa Camp. We took the horses to the river that runs through United
Estates, which was a lot of fun. Sâyan Johnston and Jason Walter were a great help over
duration of the camp, but the girls were more than poor Jason could cope with.
This was a sleep over camp, with children and clothes strewn over each room. I must say it
took a day to clear up, and a day to recover, and I am ready again any time they are! They
are really a lovely group of children. They have to sharpen up to beat Annie at card games!
