Jokingly , JW told Hogan , they were more than willing to take on the role if needed .
“ Eventually , I got a text from him right after I got done in one of my studio classes at college ,” JW said . “ It was only two weeks before the show , so I had to learn the entire show and that was one of the hardest things I ’ ve had to do because it ’ s like a solid three-hour show .”
Despite the pressure to learn lines in such a quick amount of time , the show quickly became a heartfelt memory for JW .
“ My favorite part of the show wasn ’ t even being on stage ,” JW said . “ It was fighting my way backstage , so I could see him do his solo number . Seeing how far he has come , not only as an actor but as a person , made me really excited every night .”
JW went on to explain that seeing Hogan in his first major role and having the fun they used to have on the stage was something they ’ ll never forget .
Hogan agreed , saying the show quickly became one of his favorites as well , as he played many different roles throughout the three-hour show .
Playing Motel , the lead bottle dancer and Tevye ’ s understudy , Hogan was able to develop a camaraderie among his castmates and become closer with his sister through the experience .
As the siblings begin to look forward to what comes next with this being Hogan ’ s senior year performance , they both would love to see each other on Broadway someday . If that doesn ’ t happen , JW still believes they have already lived out part of their dream by getting to be on American Idol .
“ I ’ ve known since I was three that I wanted to do American Idol , watching Kelly Clarkson ’ s audition , but I was always too scared to do it and too scared to get out of my comfort zone ,” JW said . “ I was always known for musical theatre and I had never sung pop .” But after watching Jocelyn perform in a pageant and participating themself , JW decided to give American Idol a go .
After completing several auditions virtually , JW was accepted to go onto the show .
“ I went through a set of five different auditions ,” JW said . “ I had to perform 90 seconds of three different songs that spoke to me as an artist and as a person .”
After performing the three songs , producers wanted to hear more from JW , so they whipped out one of their favorite tunes , convincing judges to send them to the next round .
JW ’ s audition was aired on television , where fans could view them tearing up while speaking to their mom , and sharing the exciting news .
“ I met a lot of incredible people and new friends ,” JW said . “ I can honestly say the winner of Season 21 and I still text and it was just an amazing experience .”
While Hogan is proud of his sister , he does not envision himself
