Phil said: “At the Education Training
Collective we have created a senior
management team that both works
collaboratively to share best practice and
knowledge across the group while at the
same time understanding and prioritising
the unique requirements of each campus and
its local communities.”

Building partnerships
With an emphasis on collaboration, Etc.
builds relationships with organisations from
the private, public and third sectors, offering
a flexible, demand-led and responsive
approach. The aim is to create greater
opportunities by equipping people with the
skills to help them in to employment, raise
aspirations and meet the economic demands
of the region.

Tees Valley Logistics
Academy
Working with employers, the Tees Valley
Logistics Academy was created to help
tackle emerging skills gaps in the industry.
It now offers bespoke commercial training,
apprenticeship and higher education
opportunities while raising awareness among
young people. The academy has already seen
some of those young people go on to start
exciting new careers in the industry.

Heading up the logistics
local advisory board
The Tees Valley Logistics Academy has a
local advisory board made up of industry
leaders and experts. Following in the
footsteps of industry leader and past
chairman of the Road Haulage Association,
Jim French, Mark Taylor is the new chairman
of the LAB meetings. Mark is head of
learning and development with the Road
Haulage Association.
A desire to build her skills and increase her knowledge
inspired Jemma Stewart to return to her studies.
Opting for a CIPD Level 5 Certificate in Human Resource
Management at Stockton Riverside College, she said: “I work
in recruitment within the human resources department at Nifco
and I wanted to increase my knowledge.”
Enjoying the experience far more than she ever expected, she said: “I
have learnt so much more than I thought I would. It has opened my mind to so
many possibilities and hopefully given me the skills to be a better member of
the team.”

North East School of Shipping
Stockton Riverside College is working with
the Chartered Institute of Shipbrokers to help
create a talent pool for this global industry.
The college has launched the institute's first
shipping school outside of London, offering
a range of courses for those working and
looking to start work in shipping.

Bespoke training for
businesses
Its partnership work with employers is one of
the Education Training Collective’s greatest
strengths. The group offers bespoke and
flexible programmes to support businesses
in shaping their workforce and growing
future talent. The group provides everything
from management training to health and
safety, domestic and specialist trade and
engineering programmes. All training can be
delivered to fit in with the complex nature of
a business and its shift patterns.
Did you know? Redcar and Cleveland
College has its own confined spaces rig
to deliver confined space awareness and
working at heights training.
10.
Sector-based work
academies
Free, short courses that come with a
guaranteed job interview have proved a
winning formula for students and employers
alike. The group’s sector-based work
academies give people the skills to start work
while also helping to fill specific skills gaps.
With recent academies delivered in care,
medical administration and even industrial
jet washing, the results speak for themselves
with many students going on to achieve
employment.
11.
A Dementia Friend
Redcar and Cleveland College is a Dementia
Friendly College, working with Dementia
Friendly Redcar and Cleveland and the
Alzheimer’s Society to help find ways
to make life easier for those living with
dementia. Lessons have been shared group-
wide with many staff heading to Redcar for
their training.

Institute of Sport and
Education
Talented young athletes no longer have
to face the difficulty of choosing between
their academic or sporting aspirations. The
Institute of Sport and Education at Bede
Sixth Form College offers students access
to a variety of sports academies, specialist
coaching, strength and conditioning
training, injury prevention management,
healthy living and nutritional advice, all
alongside their full-time study options.
A return to the
classroom proved
the route to
success for Alex
Risbrough. Keen
to develop his
skills and progress
at work, he signed
up for a HNC in
Mechanical Engineering
at Redcar and Cleveland College.
A team leader in the engineering
department at AV Dawson, the
dad-of-one said: “I would always
recommend it. Studying my HNC has
given me more knowledge to apply
to the job I’m doing and it has built
my confidence.”
