THE WORLD AROUND US TECH 2. 1. A “TOUCHY-FEELY” TABLET Retina display move over! Fujitsu is aiming to up the ante on the future of tablets… with replicating the touch sensation. e Japanese tech giant introduced what is being considered the best haptic experience in touchscreen tech at the Mobile World Congress. e tablet uses ultrasonic waves to essentially create a layer of feeling between the users fingertip and the screen. Expected to hit the market in 2015, the concept could change the whole shopping experience with the ability to feel clothes online before they’re purchased. PSFK 1. 2. FORGET AUGMENTED, IT’S REALITY Augmented reality startup Blippar is apparently looking to create an interactive world, one in which nearly every ad, product or publication does more than meets the eye. e startup announced the introduction of an app for Google Glass, and though the advertising potential is pretty obvious, the uses for the app across such a varied spectrum of products is what elevates Blippar above similar apps. We’re excited to see how well it does. PSFK 3. EYEBEACON COULD MAKE GOOGLE GLASS WORTH IT 3. Developed at the PennApps college hackathon, eyeBeacon may close the gap between Google Glass and realistic uses. e app not only offers directions and information about nearby locations, but also uses Venmo to provide a buy-it-now reality to wearers. Essentially, the purchasing process could be streamlined to the point of looking at a product. ough Google Glass has seemed like little more than a wearable novelty, this new app could provide the relevance that Glass has lacked.
