How do use shoes to try to wean
developing countries off of foreign aid?
Hire the citizens to make those shoes.
Korean designer Lee Jinyoung
introduced the idea with the Klem
Project, an “open design solution” that
proposes that communities in
developing countries repurpose scraps of
raw materials to create shoes for those
communities. e difference from other
shoe-giving programs (like TOMS) is
that for now, the idea is to keep the
production local to the communities
making them rather than turn a profit by
