Holiness
Unto the lord is….. Our watch word and song
1Jesus is the spotless lamb that was
slain for the purpose of our holy
redemption. In all grace and due
benevolence, he relinquished his
mighty throne in glory and carefully
robed himself in flesh. He knew not
sin, yet tasted death for every man:
the ultimate sacrifice that allowed us
access to eternal life.
What is holiness?
2Rev. Martin Curry (2005), in his
expository series the “ Word
Aflame”, posits that the Hebrew word
“qodesh” and the equivalent Greek
word “hagios”, together with their
derivatives, have been translated to
mean: holy, hallowed or sanctified.
Holiness therefore, describes a state of
utter dedication or devotion to the
service of God. Jesus Christ, in his
walk on the earth exuded perfect devotion to his mission; hence is rightly
understood as the perfect example of
holiness for Christian emulation.
Let holiness be your watchword and
song
3To live holy as Christians is not at
all easy to do. In fact it often times
requires more anointing to keep us
saved than it d id to convince us to
take up the cross and follow him.
The key to being holy however is
practice, due to the fact that we were
born in sin and shaped in inequityPsalm 51:5. It is our duty to constantly subdue the flesh with the
spirit as is posited by Psalm 119:9:
“Wherewithal shall a young man
cleanse his way? by taking heed
thereto according to thy word.”. As
we are “a chosen generation, a royal
priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth
the praises of him who hath called
you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”- 1 Peter 2:9, we should
endeavor constantly to be in a state
of praise, not just at church but: at
school, at home and even on the job.
Let the lord and your salvation be
foremost in your minds for
“
Whosoever is born of God doth not
commit sin; for his seed remaineth in
him and he cannot sin, because he is
born of God”- 1 John 3:9
Heaven is a holy place: sin can
never enter there
4In contemporary society, it waxes
more and more difficult to distinguish some Christians from Sinners,
given their unholy disposition. But
be not deceived by them, for they
have only a form of Godliness. A
life cut loose from sin
and has the mark of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:1416 states that “14as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to
the former lust in your ignorance, 15 But as he which
hath called you is holy, so
be ye holy in all manner of
conversation, 16 Because it is
written, be ye holy; for I am
Holy.”
The Final Admonition
5My brothers and sisters in
Christ, the bible constitutes
that we present our bodies
as a living sacrifices, holy
and acceptable to God,
which is our reasonable
service (Romans 12:1). Indeed the signs of the times
are being fulfilled as the lord
approaches. As his children,
we should therefore have no
time for idleness. Instead we
ought to be ministering to
the unsaved and bearing
each other up in prayers and
supplications. Remember,
we are commanded in Mat-
