GOLF TRAVEL
Where to begin? Fleesensee is a European Tour Preferred Destination, and it is not difficult to understand why. It boasts three 18-hole courses and two nine-hole layouts and is one of the largest golf resorts in Europe, but before we get to any of that, let’s explore the Radisson Blu Schloss Hotel, which actually began life as a castle built by Earl Ludwig II, von Blucher, built in 1842. It changed hands before being destroyed by fire in 1912, and was rebuilt two years later. It is magnificent and Ralf Reiken, its director of sales and marketing, is rightly proud of the hotel. It boasts several bars and restaurants, a spa, indoor heated pool, terraces overlooking the Schloss course and a variety of accommodation, all of it absolutely first class.

I played the Tui and Schloss courses. Having been told that the area had experienced a winter on a par with our own, the last thing I was expecting was for the greens to be in the terrific condition I found them to be in. The ball rolled true and if you read the line and got the pace right then you holed the putt. The Schloss course is rated as the best but I have to tell you that I really enjoyed the Tui course – miss the fairways here and the chances of ever being reunited with your golf ball are slim to non-existent. But neither of the courses are too penal, and would suit golfers of all standards. And the Schloss course does have the advantage of being next to the hotel, so you can literally have breakfast (and what a choice) and then stagger to the first tee.
