did not once hear a car horn or feel intimidated on the roads. So whether you are looking for a golf destination to travel to from Britain or further afield, such as the United States, Germany is definitely worth a visit. HAMBURG – Steigenberger Hotel, Treudelberg, about 20 minutes from the airport. I know that I am going to run out of superlatives before too long, so please take it as read that the quality of service, surroundings and cuisine at every hotel was top drawer, starting off with the Steigenberger, which features a beautiful terrace, with lake, looking out over its three nine-hole golf courses. Now these are not just any old nine-hole courses – they are all in fabulous condition and feature beautiful rolling greens, many guarded by

both water hazards and bunkers. The courses have 1,000 members and welcome hotel guests. As to the hotel, the double bed was enormous, the room was airy and spacious, featured great views, and served a wide variety of evening meals to suit all pockets, with a breakfast that spoilt you for choice before heading out to tackle the course. One of the joys of having several nine-hole layouts is that gives you all sorts of options in as much as you don’t have to keep playing the same 18 holes. The club selects the 18 holes for any given day, but it is highly unlikely that you would ever play the same layout on successive days. Fleesensee, Radisson Blu Schloss Hotel, about two-and-a-half hours from Hamburg.
