He said it ’ s tough managing his business as well as his floorball training .
“ It ’ s tough managing both . We don ’ t get much funding to play floorball so I ’ m having to pay my way on most tours . This means I have to continue working at an elite level while playing at an elite level ,” he said .
“ As long as you ’ re organised with your time and focused on what you believe is important , then managing your business and your passions shouldn ’ t be a problem .”
The 34-year-old trains three nights a week but on the ‘ off-nights ’ he still does interval training and practises yoga and pilates .
ELITE LEVEL INTERNATIONAL ATHLETE
BY ALEX TILBURY
Ray White Packenham senior sales agent Gavin Staindl is not just an Elite level sales performer , he ’ s an elite athlete too .
Gavin represents Australia and plays floorball at the highest level . Floorball is an indoor sport similar to ice hockey and indoor hockey .
It ’ s a huge sport in Europe and played professionally in Sweden , Finland , Switzerland and Czechia .
The 34-year-old started when he was nine , when the sport was introduced to his primary school in Melbourne . He and his friends started a team and have played ever since then .
“ I played high level football and tennis but when I was 15 , I made the decision to focus more on floorball . I was offered a contract to play overseas when I was 19 but turned it down to focus on my career goal of being a sports journalist and finishing my uni studies . What a dumb decision that was ,” he said .
He ’ s been selected to represent Australia again at the World Floorball Championships in Zurich , Switzerland later this year . He ’ s played over 60 international matches around the world but he feels now he ’ s in his 30s that this may be his final year of international competitions .
