Patrons’ trip to Dresden and Leipzig via Colditz. The Director reports: from 21 st -26 th May, 20 Wykeham Patrons visited Saxony, guided by the wonderful Cosima. In Dresden, flattened by the RAF in February 1945 but now almost completely restored to its former glory, we visited the New and Historic Green Vaults, the Frauenkirche, Hofkirche and the extraordinary porcelain collection at the Zwinger Palace. In Leipzig, Bach was the subject of our attention, with the Headmaster showing his expertise as we visited the Bachhaus and Thomas Kirche, where we listened to the wonderful choir and a rather lengthy sermon in German from the lady pastor. We had another dinner gathering on 18 th October at the famous Yung Kee restaurant in Central. Given the recent turmoil in Hong Kong the turnout was modest, but we still had a lively gathering, with a few spouses present. Other highlights were an expensive visit to the Meissen factory, a night at the Semperoper, where we watched an excellent Swan Lake, and a day trip to Colditz castle, home to four OW POWs, including Mike Sinclair, who was shot while trying to escape and won a posthumous DSO. 33
