From the Director
Ralph and Cathy Townsend
For a full appreciation of the contribution that the Townsends have made to Win Coll, I would direct you to the latest edition of our annual report, The Wykeham Journal, which can be found at http:// wincollsoc. org / news / publications if you haven’ t already received a copy by snail mail.
Suffice it to say, the transformation of Wyk Soc into Win Coll Soc, now embracing not just OWs but also all those with a stake in the School, would not have happened without Ralph’ s original vision and ongoing encouragement, while dodging the occasional slings and arrows of a very few outraged misfortunates. Hong Kong and the USA, requiring the highest standards in all our activities- and dispensing plenty of advice. There is no doubt that much of the success of our fundraising has been due to Ralph and Cathy’ s involvement with, and charming of, the Wykehamical diaspora.
I am sure that I am echoing the sentiments of all members of Win Coll Soc in thanking the Townsends for the last 11 years and wishing them well wherever the future takes them.
Stuart Churchill
Robin Chute has written elsewhere an appreciation of Stuart’ s 46 years at the School. All OWs of a sporting inclination have reason to be grateful for his lengthy service. His permanent grin and charm made him an extremely popular visitor to the Win Coll Soc office. The outdoor life was clearly a remarkable elixir of youth- Stuart’ s good looks have hardly changed since my recollection of him in the early 1970s. We intend to mark Stuart’ s achievement at a special OWCC v OWFC Twenty20 match on Saturday, 9th July.
‘ Class of’ Reunions
For the avoidance of doubt, and to reduce the number of calls to the Win Coll Soc Office, the Class relates to the year in which you left Win Coll.
Please come to Winchester Match on 18th June
This is the main opportunity for OWs of all ages to visit the School and to be royally welcomed, fed and watered, with a heavily-subsidised lunch in the Win Coll Soc marquee next to Hunter Tent. If you have not already done so, you will find a
