Saudi Arabia removed all mention of Imam Mehdi from its version of Islam and concocted the notion of an end times caliph. On the other hand, Iran and its associated religious sect, Shi’ ism, is very vocal about the emergence of Imam Mehdi.
Shi’ ism is a doctrine which bases its belief system on the sayings of Prophet Mohammad and prominent members of his household.
They believe that Imam Mehdi will be the 12th Imam, the last in a line of accomplished descendants of Prophet Mohammad. They think that he is the lost son of Imam Askari, who disappeared in his childhood over a millennium ago.
This belief is not shared by any other sect in mainstream Islam.
Iran on a state level is projecting an impression of Imam Mehdi which is nowhere near the real concept of Imam Mehdi. They believe that Imam Mehdi will come exclusively for the Iranian people to fulfill their political aspirations.
Former President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, infamously stated to the UN Security Council,‘ Imam Mehdi will come and destroy all of you.’

order to hasten the arrival of Imam Mehdi.’ Due to this rhetoric so dangerously linked to nuclear warfare, the West sees Iran as a great threat and the personality of Imam Mehdi as an enemy to peace.
Iran declares that their Imam Mehdi will destroy Israel and be an enemy of the United States of America. It considers both Israel and the United States of America to be manifestations of the devil.
Like the Wahhabis, Iran pojects the notion that Imam Mehdi will preach Shi’ ite Islam and lead the Iranians to victory against their political enemies.
However, according to a saying listed in a reference book printed by the Iranian government, Al-Ghayba, Imam Mehdi will introduce a new principle, a new book, a new custom and a new system of punishment. [ Imam Jafar Sadiq( Al-Majlisi, Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 52, p. 354)]
This clearly suggests that Imam Mehdi will not promote Islam; rather he will introduce extraordinary
