MEET THE OFFICERS
SECRETARY
EC: I am excited to work on optional events like art and skits with my school’s other Latin nerds and supporting an organization I am invested in as a leader.
The Torch: Favorite Latin quote/motto?
EC: I am frequently caught saying “tempus fugit” because time certainly flies by if one does not stop to smell the roses and admire life. But I also like the quote my Latin teacher lovingly yells at us when our focus is subpar and we are beyond obnoxious during translation practice: “fac id nunc!”
The Torch: Any quirky or interesting facts about yourself, hobbies, relations, etc.?
EC: I love practicing martial arts, reading, writing, and studying science when I am not taking a power nap between writing school essays and finishing math homework. A quirky fact about my family is that we have a great- great-grandfather who fought in most of the major civil war battles, only to lose his leg at the Battle of Trevilian Station and became the trusted US Senate Door man after the war.
Meet our 2016-17 Secretary, Emma Curran, from The Classical Academy
The Torch: What first sparked your interest in JCL?
EC: I loved taking the mandatory Latin Foundations course in middle school and wanted to continue my studies in High School. My high school teacher had a JCL club during lunch and wanted to have more students involved to try and win the duck. It was my first experience and loved it from then on out.
The Torch: What are your goals this year for the COJCL?
EC: I desire to work with my fellow officers to provide a continuation of wonderful experiences for new and old COJCL participants in addition to working with the student council in seeking efficiency and proactivity.
The Torch: What are you most excited for this upcoming year (JCL-wise)?
