MEET THE OFFICERS OFFICERS
VICE PRESIDENT
Meet our 2016-17 Vice President, Emily Bechtel, from Fairview High School
The Torch: What first sparked your interest in JCL?
EB: My first interest in JCL was my first convention as a freshman in 2015. I knew there was a convention, but didn’t understand there was a leadership team for the program and became really interested in having a bigger role in the classical community.
The Torch: What are your goals this year for the COJCL?
EB: This year in CoJCL I would really love to bring more attention to the league in general in order to introduce Latin to more students for years to come. At the convention, I would love to see more camaraderie between different schools as well as upper level and lower level students.
The Torch: What are you most excited for this upcoming year (JCL-wise)?
EB: I am most excited to work with my fellow leaders as well as peers to make this years program as fun as possible as well as make the convention better than ever before! Our officers this year are amazing and I’m incredibly excited to share ideas to make an amazing team to lead the COJCL.
The Torch: Favorite Latin quote/motto?
EB: Aequam memento rebus in arduis servare mentem-Horace. “Remember when life’s path is steep to keep your mind even.”
The Torch: Any quirky or interesting facts about yourself, hobbies, relations, etc.?
EB: I love to play tennis and to spend time at my church helping kids during services. This summer at a neuroanatomy camp, I met someone from Georgia who told me he takes Latin at his high school and in fact where he lives, a ton of kids are taking Latin earlier. I loved hearing about a passion of mine that is found all over the place!
