When encountered , hogs typically prefer to run away and are not considered dangerous but can sometimes be defensive , especially when they have young .

The Asian Clam is an invasive freshwater mussel that was introduced into the US in the 1930 ’ s . Since then , it has spread to both coasts and most states .

Alligator Gar
The Alligator Gar is the largest freshwater fish in Texas . They are also the longest living fish in Texas , with some estimated to be over 60 years old . Alligator Gars are like prehistoric dinosaurs ; their fossils date back at least 215 million years !
Eastern Mosquito Fern
The Eastern Mosquito Fern is a native aquatic fern ; however , it has the ability to cover smaller ponds and slow streams . If allowed to cover the water surface , it can reduce the oxygen in the water , which can be deadly to fish .

American Beaver
Texas Fawnsfoot
The Texas Fawnsfoot is a freshwater mussel species located in the Trinity River basin . Conservation efforts for native freshwater mussel species like the Texas Fawnsfoot and Texas Heelsplitter are important , as their populations have declined .
The American Beaver lives in the small tributaries of the Trinity River . They build dams that are environmentally beneficial to many organisms and also help maintain water in areas during periods of drought .
Largemouth Bass
Largemouth Bass are very active predators in Arlington ’ s creeks . Even as they grow their first couple inches , they start feasting on other fish .
Once reaching adulthood , they use their large mouth to eat fish and crawfish ; they even eat other Largemouth Bass !
