Hi Southwest District,
This month we have not done any projects for CKI’ s preferred charities and have also done several projects for our communities. In Portales we have participated in Up‘ Till Dawn, an awareness and fundraising event for the Saint Judes Children’ s Hospital. Here we stayed up all night and wrote and addressed letters asking for donations! We also participated in the Portales Relay for Life, which performs the same function but for the American Cancer Society. In mid- April, several of our members drove an hour to Roswell to participate in their March for Babies, a 5k walk to raise awareness for the March of Dimes organization.
On May 1st we hosted a banquet to pin our new members and our new officers. Our sponsoring Kiwanis club was invited to join us for a social.
Although we are not having set meetings over the summer, several of our members will be in town and plan on working with the Girl Scouts of Clovis and Portales, as well as fundraising for our club. We are also attempting to have a social with our friends at UNM for our club officer training this summer.
For recruitment we are planning several large fundraisers and socials for fall, as well as helping students move back into the dorms at the start of fall semester, all to attempt to draw in new members and make our club more open to others.
