PODCAST
What Are You Doing, Movie? is a film commentary podcast, part of the Friends in Your Head podcast network. It is hosted by visual effects artist Teague Chrystie, and the rest of the panel is composed of other members of the film industy (regular panelists include Trey "The Amazing" Stokes, Michael "Dorkman" Scott, and Brian Finifter).
GETTING TO KNOW MOVIES
For a long time, I've been an amateur film buff. While I haven't tackled all the classics, I've come a long way in understanding how films are written and made, in part due to this podcast.
What sets WAYDM apart from other movie-related podcasts is primarily that it is a commentary; they set up a pause/unpause point so the listener can watch along with the film and their commentary. As advertised, it feels as though you are watching the movie with "the friends in your head".
On top of that, like Teague says at the end of every episode, their forum is a wonderful community of people having intelligent conversations about films and stuff.
Furthermore they do a bi-monthy web show as they record an episode, and listeners have the opportunity to be in the chatroom, live, and participate in the discussion. (Maybe even get a shout-out in the podcast!).
PITCHES, FIXES AND REWRITES
Overtime, the show has evolved from casual movie nights to in-depth discussions about storytelling. Recently, the boys deconstructed the Disney-Pixar film "Brave". Over the course of the film, they tried to reconcile the film's intended theme with the actual plot.
