HYPERTEXT:text which contains links to other texts; text which is not constrained to be linear.
Hypertext gives the author more control over how the reader views the text. But it also gives the reader freedom of choice. For example, using Twine, and author can set text to appear at timed intervals, or make a character's name link to a description of said character - kind of like an appendix within the text that the reader can click if they want.
