But we kind of get stuck in text messages and other nonpersonal communication . I wanted to show that kind of communication where people say polite things without be-ing monsters . I wanted it to sound like a phone conversation where it shows a couple who has good communication . That was my narrative line .
And speaking of avatars , could you give us a sneak peek into these four powerful per-sonas ?
It starts with silhouettes to present them like a play . I wanted to leave room for interpretation .
I wanted to have the archetypes that played in the forefront of my mind .
We start with the actress waiting for a shot . In the background is a painting
Shantanu created . While writing this song , I saw that painting . It was that of a monster and an in-nocent lady and who is controlling / consuming whom ? The broken disco balls that represent that glamour is really not what it seems . The mirror is ever present and she has to face the mirror and the monster with-in .
The other is the archetype of the witch . There are metaphorical stakes where predomi-nantly women are burnt over-time .
The Narrator is a woman with a hammer as there is so much hammering going on eve-rywhere and its about Hammering my point in .
There is enough room for people to interpret .
How long did it take to write this song ?
I wrote the song in two weeks . The finishing was longer .
We shot the video in a day .
I collaborated with the really talented director Dwarakesh and Bhuvan Sir who is the DoP of KGF and Salaar who made it cinematic and beautiful . The art director is Venkatachalapathi who is the art director of Salaar as well . Prashant Sir was kind enough to say “ I like what you are doing , so , take our help ”. Its the first time I ’ ve seen a beautiful amalgamation of such sorts .
It was not like this in my experience before .
I am really thankful to the incredible people I got to collaborate with us .

The Musical Odyssey of Shruti Haasan

Shruti , you ’ ve graced us with ‘ Edge ’ and ‘ She Is A Hero ’ before . How has your musical style evolved from those to ‘ Monster
Machine ’?
I have been songwriting , practicing , working and collaborating behind the scenes for ev-er . The hope is to get more and more towards what I am trying to say with that piece of music .
There is not that big a difference in that sense . I try to stay true to the expression .
But , I think the production is getting bigger and bigger be it the sounds or videos and even the budgets are getting bigger .
But the minute we did this , I feel like , I just want to shoot one with my phone in front of a grey wall in my house .
Songwriting is such a personal process . How you go about creating your music ?
There are times when the music calls to me and it happens .
Then , there are times when it does not happen , I then sit for sure at the piano . It about enjoying creating music .
