Can you tell us about your experience performing at Lollapalooza edition 1 in India ? How did it feel to be a part of such a renowned music festival ?
I definitely felt a great deal of validation as an indie artist who ’ s been playing the gig and festival circuit for years . It felt like playing an international festival except it was right in our backyard . I had a great experience just prepping for the gig and getting the whole act together . The last band performance I had was before the pandemic so just being on stage with them felt super special . The festival itself has really put India and Mumbai on the map as a global festival venue .
As a singer-songwriter , could you walk us through your songwriting process ? How do you find inspiration and overcome writer ’ s block ?
It ’ s really difficult to talk about a specific songwriting process because for me it ’ s been different each time . I think the most important part of writing is actually feeling . Nothing feels genuine unless you ’ re feeling something strongly and I find that writer ’ s block happens sometimes from a place of emotional numbness but also just not being in the practice of sitting down and trying . It ’ s important to keep trying even if the ideas feel stale .
You had the opportunity to meet Tim Cook , the CEO of Apple , and share your unreleased song with him . How was that experience ? Did his feedback or insights have an impact on your songwriting process ?
I don ’ t think it impacted how I write but it definitely was a huge boost of confidence in my journey as an artist . It felt great to be noticed by someone so powerful and influential when being an indie musician is almost not even recognised as a career in most parts of the country . He was curious about the ways people like me use Apple products in our everyday lives and shared his love for music and his excitement about being in India . An inspiring moment with an inspiring leader .
You performed at the Nita Mukesh Ambani cultural center . How did that performance come about , and what was it like to perform in such a prestigious venue ?
When I was asked to perform at the event , I didn ’ t know just how big it was going to be . It was a 3 hour performance and I had also voiced the audio guide for the India in Fashion exhibition so I was involved in more ways than one . There was definitely a lot of hype around it because a venue of this size and sophistication has never existed in the country and it felt incredible to be the first among many many more artists to perform there .
Vocal health is crucial for any artist . What are some practices or routines you follow to take care of your voice and maintain its quality during performances ?
I think sleep is definitely a big part of it but it ’ s almost the hardest thing to get while on tour . Early morning flights
