How Employment and Earnings Vary by Nationality and Gender( 2024)
How to read this chart
Each circle represents a group of workers in 2024, split by nationality and gender. The position of the circle from left to right shows the group’ s average annual earnings, while the position from bottom to top shows how many people are employed in that group. Larger circles indicate groups with higher average annual earnings, and the dashed vertical line marks the overall average earnings level in 2024, helping to show which groups sit above or below that benchmark. So, any groups to the left of this line earn less than the average.
What this chart shows
The chart highlights clear differences in how employment and earnings are distributed across the workforce for Full Time employment. Some of the largest groups, particularly Spanish and Gibraltarian workers, account for a high number of jobs but sit closer to or below the overall average earnings level. In contrast, smaller groups such as Other British and Other EU workers have fewer jobs overall but tend to record higher average earnings, especially among men. Across all nationality groups, male earnings are higher than female earnings. Taken together, the chart shows that the groups with the most jobs are not always those with the highest average pay, illustrating the varied roles different parts of the workforce play within Gibraltar’ s labour market.
