Your son Theo joined your family after ten years of being just the two of you . What were some of the delights and difficulties of extending your family ?
MICHAEL : After ten years alone , we were so ready to become parents , but it was obviously a big adjustment for all three of us . When we first met Theo , we couldn ’ t believe how cute he was . A few days later , we also couldn ’ t believe how such a cute kid could keep us up all night . During the days , Theo was so playful and energetic . We spent hours playing with toys together , introducing him to new foods ( he thought American chicken nuggets were disgusting ) and family members . The days were so much fun , but he would grieve the loss of his foster family in Thailand at night . Balancing the joy and the grief during that time was definitely one of the most difficult parts of becoming parents . Since those early days , Theo has adjusted so well , and we are very grateful !
COURTNEY : It was definitely a big change for both of us , and I think we were both in a bit of shock , in the best way . We were happier than we ’ d ever been , but we had to learn how to survive on a lot less sleep and delegate the new responsibilities of being toddler parents . We had both dreamed of being parents for so long , and Theo ’ s funny , sweet , and affectionate personality makes life so much better than we could have imagined !
