GIRLS ’ CRICKET
Overview
An historic first term for girls ’ cricket at Pocklington , it has been wonderful to see a new group of cricketers embrace the game with great energy and a desire to improve . Due to the Covid-19 pandemic , fixtures were slow to start and the first-ever game of girl ’ s cricket didn ’ t take place until after the May half-term . The under-13 and under- 12s played against our near neighbours , St Peter ’ s , with two very close games showcasing the potential of girls ’ cricket in Yorkshire . Further fixtures versus Hill House School in Doncaster , and a return fixture against St Peter ’ s , are planned .

What a debut season for our U12 girls ! The majority of girls had never played cricket before and the progress they have made has been unbelievable .
To begin with , they did not know how to overarm-bowl , but now every single girl can perform a good bowling action and with increased accuracy . Our fielding has improved also , with more catches being made , and the girls have shown a good understanding of setting up a tactical field . Batting has become more aggressive and powerful , which has been great to see .
The highlight of our season has been being the first female cricket team to record a win at Pocklington School when we won against St Olaves , such a day to remember . I ’ d like to say a huge well done to all the girls for their enthusiasm and willingness to learn this term .
