SPORT // BOYS ’ CRICKET with a calmness and a maturity rarely seen in a boy his age .
That grit , determination and passion that was shown against Hymers typified what the entire U13 squad represented throughout the whole season . It has been a privilege and a pleasure to coach a year group that exemplifies the values that Pocklington School strives to maintain . Go well boys .

CAPTAINS ’ COMMENT
The lads have had a great season , full of highlights . Two wins against our rivals , Hymers ( both home and away ) which demonstrated our best performances as individuals and as a team .
In the home game against Hymers , Oscar Cowling batted through the 20 overs , anchoring the side with 22 runs to his name – the best batting of the season . Closely followed by our biggest hitter , Spencer Moore , who hit four sixes . With the bowling , James Sweeting managed to take five wickets in only two overs at Hymers , where we also had our best fielding performance – bowling them out for 52 in less than 16 overs .
The most improved player was Tom Pearson , who , along with myself , helped win the game in a batting collapse against Hymers .

U12 XI

The boys have had an emphatic season , filled with enthusiasm and energy . It has been excellent to manage to get a handful of fixtures in these unprecedented times . The students have brought positivity and adaptability with them , and have shown a want to learn and develop as young cricketers .
There have been some outstanding results with Tom Rook , Seb Staal , Will Needler and Toby Mackenzie all making 30 runs and retirement in various games . Tom Rook has retired copious times and shown some excellent decision making . Toby Mackenzie and Will Needler have been outstanding , their bowling showing some excellent variation and composure , as well as Oliver McCollum really coming into his own .
All the boys have developed across the season and , out of the six games played , we only lost one . The second to last game of the season was against Scarborough and , after a slow start in the batting order , Jack Dicconson and Charlie Evans came into their own – knocking off 35 runs in four overs ! This gave the team a challenging fielding innings , but the boys rose to the challenging with it , coming into the last two balls of the game and only narrowly missing out on an unbeaten season .
The boys have matured well and learned a lot about themselves on the way . It has been a pleasure to coach these young individuals and watch them develop individually and as a team , and I wish them all the best for the future .
