Medicinal use Gastronomic use Rye grain is refined into a flour. Rye bread, including pumpernickel, is made using rye flour and is a widely eaten food in Northern and Eastern Europe. Rye is also used to make crisp bread. Rye grain has been used for its medicinal properties for a long period of time. In Chinese traditional medicine, rye was used to alleviate fatigue and lethargy, and also boost digestive function of the stomach. Rye grain is used to make alcoholic drinks, like rye whiskey and rye beer. Other uses of rye grain include kvass and an herbal medicine known as rye extract. The seed are an effective laxative due to its fibrous seed coat. Rye straw is used as livestock bedding, as a cover crop and green manure for soil amendment, and to make crafts such as corn dollies. Other medicinal uses of rye are: ● Improves heart health by fighting cardiovascular disorders ● Relieves constipation Layered curd-bread dessert ● Prevents cancer, especially that of the colon Recipe: ● Aids weight loss 200 g Sour cream or yogurt ● Controls diabetes 5.5 tsp Sugar ● Prevents gallstones 500 g Dry bread 500 g Curd 50 g Butter 1.5 teaspoon Cinnamon (ground) 500 g apple jam Stir the curds with sour cream or flavored yogurt, add 2 tsp of sugar. Crumbled bread. Melt in a pan or, roast grated bread with 3,5 tsp of sugar and cinnamon and let it cool. Put a bowl of curds, a layer of bread crumbs and a layer of jam, then lay the same layers once more.
