Rye is one of a species that grow wild in central and eastern Turkey and in adjacent areas.
It is the most resistant cereal, able to adupt to barren soils and cold, rainy climates. It tolerates acid, sandy soils.
Leaves Its without petiole.
Flowers The flowers are hermaphrodit and consist of three stamens and an ovary, hairy at the apex. The rye only bears the three flowers of which only two are fertile.
