ANDREA NYBERG
This is no ordinary chair. It is a chair of HOPE.
I found a listing for this lovely child’ s rocker online, contacted the owner and arranged to pick it up from her home. When I arrived, I was greeted by a lovely woman named Sandy. She took a moment to share her story with me, and what I heard has inspired me to use this little chair to give back.
Sandy was diagnosed with breast cancer 22 years ago. Ten years later she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’ s Lymphoma. Five years later she was diagnosed with Leukemia. She was told she had only six months to live unless she found a donor for a bone marrow transplant. A donor was found and the surgery was successful. Now, Sandy is filled with a sense of purpose and believes,“ She’ s here for a reason.” Sandy designs window displays for an antique furniture shop in California where all proceeds from her business, Sandy’ s Spaces, go to support cancer research.
The very next day, I used the rocker as a prop in a photo session with a little girl celebrating her first birthday. Seeing her sitting on that little wooden rocker filled me with hope and inspired me to use Sandy’ s story to give back. So, with every photo session, 5 % of my earnings go to support cancer research. Cancer has left its mark on my own family, with those lost, and those still fighting. I am so privileged to have met Sandy and taken ownership of this lovely little wooden rocker that will provide a little piece of hope every time it’ s used.
