SIMPLICITY IN LEADERSHIP.
It is often said that simplicity is the
ultimate sophistication. President
Francesca of the Rotaract Club of
Kololo is my true definition of that
saying. From the way she presides
over Club business to the way she
rightly appoints Club members
to execute different tasks always
leaves me mesmerized.
Over time, I have come to agree
with myself that the more we break
down tasks, the more we make
them easier to execute and, in the
end, bring on the much-needed
results for our various clubs. During
the August REI Caravans, I saw how
easily a number of Clubs raised
cash for the needed trees.
The story for most of them was
similar. They decided on how much
they had to raise as a club, identified
its sources and embarked on the
collection process. For example, a
28-man Club planned to raise UGX
700,000/= and agreed that at the
bare minimum, each member had to
raise UGX 20,000/=. Within a week’s
time, this money had already been
raised and the Club was possibly
happy already.
Of course, the extras were from
well-wishers. In this, we learn that
whatever we do in our clubs can
only be simple if we plan in time,
split tasks and of course deliver on
our said tasks.
But as leaders, we also ought to know
that what might be simple and obvious
to us may not be, to others. As of
such, we need to ensure that tasks are
well broken down and defined so that
every assigned member gets a picture
of what is required of them. With the
basics laid out, we can then let those
tasked, carry them on with as much
innovativeness as possible. This way,
we will have a more enjoyable Rotaract
experience full of great development
for ourselves and for the communities
that we serve.

THE JOY IN SERVING
As human beings we tend to always
think of only ourselves, the trait of
selfishness flows deep within our
blood. We always preach about
self-love, but what is self-love if you
don’t show it through loving others?
This is what Rotary stands for,
deriving joy through serving others.
Even before I joined Rotaract I had
always had it within me to help
out where there was need to. The
challenge came in that the help I
would give would not create lasting
solutions to the problem but would
just ease it for a while.
This was the norm until I joined the wagon of the people of action;
human beings who come up with impactful sustainable solutions to
challenges all around us.
We recently concluded our first project as a newly chartered club
“Kyamusisi literacy project “and the joy the project left us with is still
evident in the club. Seeing the smiles of the children and teachers
of the three schools that were engaged in the project still gives us
hordes of joy, the engagement of members in the club has increased,
we are increasing our membership and looking forward to phase two
of the project. Joy is everywhere, you just have to find the right place,
I found mine in Rotaract.
