THE READING PROJECT.
GULU ROTARACTORS READING WITH RURAL SCHOOL PUPILS.
Reading can be a fun and imaginative time for children
and can open doors to all kinds of new worlds for them.
It could be a way for them to leap into a better future.
Imagine a child with limited chances to read, and how it
affects them. He or she wouldn’t be able to access the
breadth of the school curriculum and that opportunity to
improve their communication and language skills.
The visits and mentorship shall continue until the
reading Club can run with minimal supervision.
The Reading Project seeks to equip the pupils not only
with literacy skills but further build their confidence,
self-esteem, communication, and interpersonal skills. In
turn, we will be supporting the fulfillment of the school’s
vision of providing holistic education to the pupils. To
achieve this, activities such as spelling competitions,
story writing, and telling, debates, career guidance,
screening of motivational movies and school exchange
program have been designed.

Club of Gulu had to sit down and rethink a strategy for the
school support. Together with the school administration,
teachers and prefects, we re-assessed the pupil’s low In the near future, the Club hopes to offer more than

Together with the school teachers, we tailored the
project activities to be more fun, engaging and educative.
A Reading Club, with a groomed leadership team, was
formed. Rotaractors have been visiting the Reading
Club twice in a fortnight to mentor the club leadership
and read storybooks with the pupils.
