Fall 2015 2015 NJCL Certamen Recap By Tullus Dean, Summit Team Ohio again proved its worth at the certamen buzzer table this year at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas during the 62nd NJCL Convention. Ohio fielded teams in all divisions - Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. This year, due to extremely competitive tryouts, both the intermediate and advanced teams had alternate players for certain spots. The teams were: Novice - Julia Dean, Summit (Captain), John Brady, St. Eds, and Owen Kranz, St. Eds Intermediate - Peter Hattimer, Walnut Hills (Captain), Caroline Klette, Summit, Michael Warden, Summit, Julia Cardinal, McAuley, Charlie Dwight, Seven Hills, and Gautam Apte, Shaker . After a rough Round 1 start against future second seed Texas, Ohio bounced back in Round 2 against Illinois to put some major points on the board. Sameer Apte’s powerful performance helped springboard the Advanced team into the 8th seed for the semifinals. Going up against the first seed Georgia, Ben Robertson hit a clutch buzz on question 20 to seal team Ohio’s spot in the finals against Florida and California.
