doing over the last few years. Maybe someone can have a Glen Johnson 2004 type year? Golovkin & Broner could both have a big 2013.
Eddie: That's tough to say because no one can really predict the route a fighters career may go but I'm going to have to go with Saul Alvarez. Now this is strictly based on him getting the fights he wants because I think he can beat both Austin Trout and this older version of Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Who do you hope to see retire in 2013?
Matty: Hopkins is going to lose to Tavoris Cloud; I don't have much doubt about it, either. Is it because Cloud is truly better than Hopkins? Of course not! It's because Hopkins has to be reaching that point where he can't do it anymore. As much as it would have meant for Hopkins to retire after beating Pascal, he chose to keep going, and if he's looking for a fairy tale ending, I just don't see this fight providing him with that opportunity. Hopefully, he will retire shortly after this fight.
Ben: Kelly Pavlik. Enough of this guy. Undeserving payday after undeserving payday. His Middleweight reign was a joke and he's just not relevant anymore. The Andre Ward fight was a joke that Ward never should have taken. Now they're talking Bute? On what credentials? Terrible.
Kurt: I really hope so. Canelo has got all the potential to be a great fighter but I'm fed up of his reluctance to face a genuine 154lber who is in his prime. Surely, 2013 will be the year when he faces a challenge.
Eddie: I think so. Canelo and his management team tried to get the big fight last year on the date he faced Josesito Lopez, but James Kirkland wanted to much money and the tragic accident involving Paul Williams happened, causing what would have been legit fights against two battle tested, true 154 lbers to fall through.
Who will have the most success over the coming twelve months?
Matty: I think that Adrien Broner is looking at a marquis year if he stays active. If he puts four fights in this year and finishes it up with a legitimate test at 140, people will have to take notice. He certainly has the skills and the manager, now it is just a matter of picking the right fights to build himself into a true star of the boxing world.
Ben: Back to back fighters of the year for Nonito Donaire. In 2013 he's going to defeat Guillermo Rigondeaux and potentially Abner Mares if they can make the fight. I don't see anyone in Donaire's current weight class or the next weight class above him that can touch him. He's that good.
Tommy: This is a tough one to answer. Mayweather hardly fights, Pacquiao and Marquez are probably going to rematch at some point, Ward is going to be injured for a while and Sergio Martinez will probably only fight twice, against Murray and Chavez Jr. I think it will most likely be Nonito Donaire. He's probably the best fighter in the world right now and with him being active every three months he’ll most likely have another huge year.
Kurt: It's hard to look past the guys on top right now, because, in all honesty, you can't see them being defeated. Mayweather, Donaire, Ward, Wladimir should carry on doing what they have been doing
Tommy: Danny Williams
Kurt: I hope Evander Holyfield finally calls it a day. The man is fifty years old and still wants to fight a Klitschko. I want him to go before he gets seriously hurt.
Eddie: Roy Jones Jr.. He has a nice little career as a commentator going for him now and its sad to see this once great athlete getting battered and knocked out by fighters who weren't fit to lace his boxing shoes during his prime.
