The one fight you would love to see in 2013?

Matty: I'm hoping beyond hope that something happens to make Mayweather/Martinez a reality. Maybe Canelo/Trout really happens and Floyd is forced to reach for the sky rather than going with something that is simply profitable and available? Sign it for 155 and give Floyd a chance at the legitimate middleweight title. Historic things, such as this, are what we need to keep boxing moving.

Ben: Nonito Donaire/Abner Mares. Not only does it pit the two best fighters in the division against one another but it also would mean that the fight would have to be co-promoted by the most bitter of enemies. Of course I'm speaking of Bob Arum and Oscar De La Hoya. The build up between promoters would rival and perhaps even surpass the build up between the fighters. It's double the entertainment for any boxing fan.

Tommy: A fight I'm getting really hyped about is Mayweather-Canelo. I'm not 100% sure it will come off but it's being talked up a lot so fingers crossed. Mayweather is, of course, a boxing genius but young Canelo may just have the key to unlock the door.

Boxingasylum.com owners Tommy Allan and Ben Weisman, joined by staff members Kurt Ward, Matty D and Eddie Thomas discuss what may lie ahead over the next twelve months.

Eddie: Abner Mares vs Nonito Donaire. In my opinion these two guys are the best fighters in the world below 147 lbs and I think their styles would mesh perfectly for a potentially explosive, fan friendly affair as long as the fight lasts.

Will we see Canelo step up and face a legit test in 2013?

Matty: If Alvarez faces Austin Trout, he is officially taking on the best available. His resume of welterweights and faded former champions leaves much to be desired, but there are certainly attractive fights for him if he and GBP finally decide to put him into deep waters.

Ben: Yes. Floyd Mayweather Jr. I may be in the minority but I'm predicting Floyd vs. Canelo in September of 2013. I also expect him to fight on the still not yet official Guerrero/Mayweather undercard. Maybe against somebody like Andre Berto.

Tommy: I think this will be a big year for Canelo. De La Hoya is making the right sounds about unleashing him, so I see him being in a a fight the fans really respect him for taking. I think his win over Lopez is a bit underrated, though. Lopez had just beaten Victor Ortiz, who is pretty much the same size as Canelo is.

I dont think there's a better combination puncher in boxing right now than the red-headed Mexican, and they're all powerful shots that go head to body.

Kurt: I would really love to see Sergio Martinez take on Gennady Golovkin. I'm high on GGG and would love to see him get a big fight. I think he has all the tools to be the best Middleweight on the planet. He just needs the opponents to prove it. The fans would love this one.

Will we see it in 2013?
