Name: Alessandro Volta
Birthday: 18.2.1745
Place of birth: Como, Lombardy, Italy
Date of death: 5.3.1827
Place of death: Como, Lombardy, Italy
Occupation(s): Physicist, chemist, pioneer of electrical science.
Invention and purpose: Alessandro Volta invented the first battery. The Battery was constructed of the following materials: Acid dipped leather or cardboard, and two different types of metals (preferably zinc and copper.) The materials would then be shaped into disks and stacked one on top of the other. The battery was used to discover new metals and for other lab purposes.
Brief bio: Ever since Volta was young he wanted to learn. His uncle taught him until he reached the age of 12 and then he moved to a Christian boarding school. There, he was pressurized to become a priest, so his family moved him to a different school. Throughout his childhood he learned to speak Italian, Latin, French, German, and English. These languages helped him later on in life, when he chose to be a scientist and not a lawyer. As a scientist,
Volta dedicated his time to studying electricity. Due to all his studying and The Frog’s Legs experiment, he invented the first battery. Volta travelled the world, and shared his discoveries. He also believed that children should be taught science and modern languages in school. Along with his invention, he also isolated methane gas and made a list of electricity conductors. The list was created after Volta performed Galvani’s Jumping Frog’s Legs experiment.
