MVHA Membership Chair MVHA President
At our last board meeting, we discussed the rising
costs of printing and mailing our newsletter.
Postal rates continue to rise, and our printing and
mailing house expenses are causing us to lose
money on the mailed newsletter. As many of you know, the unexpected passing of
our organization’s long-time president, Patricia
Figueroa, led to a series of abrupt changes to
our Board’s composition in 2016. We recently
discovered that after this transition, certain State-
required paperwork needed to maintain our non-
pro it status did not get iled.
To compensate for the rising costs, our Board
has voted to make a digital newsletter the default
subscription for new members. Existing members
will not be impacted by this change.
We understand the importance of a printed
newsletter, especially for our non-internet savvy
members. Please rest assured that we have no
intention of eliminating our mailed edition of the
newsletter. But for those of you who are online,
we ask you to go green and please consider
switching to an emailed version of the newsletter.
If you wish to change to an email-only version of
the newsletter, please send an email to:

Come
on Board!

MVHA President
Our Board is still looking to ill the position of
Ways & Means Committee Chair, appointed by the
MVHA Board’s Executive Committee. According
to our by-laws, the of icial duty of the Ways &
Means Committee Chair is “to formulate plans
for the raising of funds for special projects of the
Association.” We are looking for someone with
creative energy who can help dream up ideas
for new projects and who can help us raise the
support needed to turn those ideas into reality. If
you join the Board, you will be joining a diverse
and passionate team.

Our previous president, Candace Bowers, has
been working with the State Franchise Tax
Board and Attorney General Registry to have
our tax-exempt status reinstated. The requested
paperwork for 2016 and 2017 has been accepted
by the State, but in the process of reviewing
our application for reinstatement, additional
paperwork from the 2001 iscal year has been
requested. With the Board’s assistance, Candace
is in the process of compiling the nearly twenty-
year-old paperwork to submit to the State.
As our Board works to resolve this issue,
we advise members that donations to our
organization are not currently tax-deductible. We
will provide an update on our progress toward
resolving this situation in our next newsletter.
In the meanwhile, please send any questions to
[email protected].
