2nd Annual Harvest
History Festival
By Marina Marinovich
MVHA Director-at-Large
Before there was tech, there were orchards. Silicon
Valley was known as The Valley of Heart’s Delight,
with Mountain View nestled serenely at its center.
Come to the Harvest History Festival and celebrate our
valley’s rich and fertile past. Heritage Park is home to
this family-friendly event on Saturday September 28,
from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
Tour the gardens, sample harvest bounty, enjoy
children’s activities and art projects, live music, and
bubble entertainment. View the new furnishings
at the historic Immigrant House and see garden
demonstrations. Drop by the Mountain View Historical
Association’s booth. Bike or walk in. Heritage Park
is located at 771. N. Rengstorff Avenue. For more
information about this FREE event, contact Mountain
View Parks and Recreation at (650) 903-6331.
Coming in October: Back
to the Eagles’ Shack!
By Nick Perry
MVHA President
The MVHA Board is excited to announce that for our
fall meeting on Sunday, October 6, we are partnering
with former MVHA Board Member Eugene Sharp to
hold a special live-music event at the Adobe Building:
“Back to the Eagles’ Shack.”
In the late 1940s and early 1950s, the historic Adobe
Building was known as the “Eagles’ Shack,” named
after the mascot of Mountain View High School on
Castro Street. On Saturday nights, locks of teenage
Mountain View “Eagles” would turn the Adobe into
a dance hall as local bands like the Melody Mixers
played popular tunes.
Our event will attempt to recapture the spirit of
that era, with music provided by Mountain View
High School’s current student music combo,
Fifth Edition. The event is timed to coincide with
the annual “All-Eagles” Mountain View High
School Reunion at Cuesta Park, held on the same
weekend. Details are still being worked out and
will be shared in our next newsletter. We hope
you’ll mark your calendars and help spread the
word!
