Former Disney Imaginner Bob Gurr speaks at another successful and
sold-out MVHA Summer BBQ!
We were very pleased to see so many of you at the BBQ. What a
combination, Disneyland and Linda’s Parisian burgers! Although I
wasn’t able to attend, I understand that our special guest speaker,
imagineer Bob Gurr, was very interesting. Thank you to Mr. Gurr and
to everyone who helped make this event such a great success.
Please note on your calendar that our next Membership Meeting is
on Sunday, November 1. Daylight Savings ends and we “fall back”
in the early morning that same day―so don’t forget to turn back
your clock that morning. Instead of a guest speaker, we’re hosting
a “Memories and Mementos” program, a chance for members to
bring your memories to share. The MVHA has hosted these showand-tell events since we were first founded, and they’ve always been
interesting and popular. The last time, the sign-up sheet was so long
that we couldn’t get to everyone! We hope many of you will bring
memories and mementos to share, and we’ll do our best to give
everyone who signs up a chance to speak.
In other news, thanks to members Lucas Ramirez and Emily Ramos
for helping the MVHA investigate on-line payment systems. Soon
you’ll be able to join or renew your membership on our website,
www.mountainviewshistorical.org. Of course, you’ll still be able to
renew by check or cash via mail. Our goal is to give members and
potential members another option. We’re also creating an eventbrite.
com account to streamline online ticket purchases and RSVPs for our
special events, like the BBQ.
Speaking of events, we hope to see some of you at the City of
Mountain View’s dedication ceremony for the new Mountain View
Veterans Memorial on November 11 at Eagle Park at 650 Franklin
Street. The event takes place from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the historic
Mountain View Union High School flagpole near the park’s pool
house. As mentioned in previous editions of our newsletter, we’ve
been working closely with the Veterans Memorial organizers to fund
and design a new interpretive sign at the memorial. The sign will
explain both the meaning of the memorial and the site’s history as
the former location of Mountain View Union High School. The sign is
slated to be installed after the dedication ceremony, so keep an eye
out for it next time you’re in Eagle Park!
