October will be a busy month for Immigrant House. On October 14, there will be a Zoning Administrator Hearing at the Mountain View Civic Center. The reason for this meeting is to officially request a historic preservation permit to add Immigrant House to the Mountain View Register of Historic Resources. The house is set to be moved to its new location at 771 N. Rengstorff Avenue in 2016. Immigrant House will stand as a humble remnant of Old Mountain View’s past, commemorating our history and our agrarian roots. The park surrounding the house will be a sanctuary that also celebrates our wildlife and native plants. The plan includes a demonstration garden while also preserving a large heritage tree canopy for current and future generations to enjoy. On October 15, City of Mountain View Senior Project Manager Rey Rodriguez will give a presentation to the Santa Clara Historical Heritage Commission to apply for a grant for Immigrant House project renovation. At the October 27 Council Meeting, we are hoping to officially designate the structure as historic. This three-year process has required a lot of patience and effort. Thanks to all those who have supported us. It couldn’t have been done without you! We will keep you updated here at MVHA, and check the Friends of Immigrant House page on Facebook for all the news. 3
