A bike for all seasons

The new Eclipse P18 is set to open up new perspectives for cyclists seeking a larger folding bike

Coming in strong alongside the "Road Warrior" (Eclipse S18i) is the no-frills Eclipse P18.

This new bike with its 18-speed drivetrain is set for new heights in the 24" folding bike market with its price point as the main appeal.

Said to cost no more than RM4K (speculated price), the Eclipse P18 will cater to a market segment for people who want a slightly "larger" bike, but without the bulk when folded.

Tern's Product Research and Development team has been developing a bike that complements the award-winning and well-loved "Pirate-Ninja".

Its Vice President Joshua Hon said the Eclipse P18 is a solution for those seeking an affordable bike which based on the Eclipse platform.

He added that the Eclipse P18 is a "cheaper" bike to complement the Eclipse X20.

Like its flashier cousin, the new 18-speed bike boasts of premium-quality components and the readily-available luggage rack sockets on the bike's frame meant that it could be rigged as a long-distance commuting or touring bike.

Another version of the Eclipse that we won't be seeing here in Malaysia is the Eclipse S18i. This is a complete bike with all the bells and whistles.

Straight out of the box, it comes with a joule 3 dynamo hub and Valo 2 headlight. But that's not all, a set of luggage racks are also thrown-in.

In short, the Eclipse S18i is a touring bike full-on!

Unfortunately, due to its higher retail price, the preferred choice is its cheaper cousin, the Eclipse P18.

"We have a lot of enquiries about the bike since it was announced at the Eurobike 2013 and Interbike show that concluded in Las Vegas, USA, recently," added Fong.

Pre-orders can be made at the Rodalink Bicycle stores as well as official Tern bike dealers.
